Good morning! Anyone else having one of those days where you look at the clock and think to yourself…”OMG, it’s only 8am”…
My dose of chaos came early today courtesy of all 3 kiddos. They stayed up about two hours past their bedtime, so of course that meant they were awake half an hour earlier today. I was just waking up to take a shower in silence when I heard the door creak open and a girl in a ballerina dress walked in. Fast forward to the shower: In the ten minutes I was in there, my kids managed to 1) steal my towel 2) flush the toilet multiple times creating a roller coaster of temperatures in the shower 3) fill the bathtub with steam engines from the Island of Sodor and 4) run off with my favorite pair of earrings
oh, and 5) find a package of gluten-free sandwich cookies that was WAY too expensive and start to eat them on the couch
But, we reset, had a good breakfast and are getting ready to head out the door.
Today I wanted to share a few quick tip that can help you get a long life out of your fruits and veggies – especially since we’re at the end of summer and there is so much good produce at great prices at grocery stores and farmer’s markets.
- Wash all your fruits and veggies as soon as your bring them home. Then they will be ready to eat anytime. In a large bowl in the sink add 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1 drop each Thieves and Lemon essential oil (optional), then fill 3/4 of the way with water. Drop in your fruit/veggie and soak 5 min. Rinse in a large colander and dry on paper towels on the counter.
- For berries, grapes, other small fruits, fold a paper towel in half and spray lightly with Thieves Household Cleaner (don’t worry, it’s safe and non-toxic!). Place one paper towel under your washed berries and one on top in the container. It will discourage mold growth.
- Bananas – un-bunch them to make them ripen more slowly! Use brown bananas to make MUFFINS!
- Check on the veggies in your fridge daily – if you aren’t cooking with them as planned, take a few minutes to chop and freeze. Or plan a meal around what you’ve got. We saute a lot of veggies and add them to any existing meal.
- Peaches and avocados – speed up the ripening process by setting them in the sun. It really works!
Have a great day!
